1st Trip to the Dallas Zoo

Our first trip to the Dallas Zoo was a success. The best part of the trip for us was feeding and seeing the Giraffes. They came right up to the viewing stand and you could feed and pretty much pet them. Next time we go we will have to get some of the lettuce from the park rangers to feed them.  Sam also enjoyed the birds. They had an atrium where you could go in and they would actually allow the birds to stand on your shoulder or hand. He loved it and got a little upset when they would not stay on him.

Bumper Bowling for the First Time

What more do I need to say? Bumper Bowling, Yes please! Over the weekend we took Sam bumper bowling for the first time. He has been playing Wii bowling and told us that he wanted to go real bowling. So we made it happen. At the beginning he started out by doing the granny roll. By the end he was bowling like a pro. Well almost.

(Mom, don't show Amy or Patrick the video. They would just DIE to see where he released the ball)

Plano Balloon Festival

A few weekends ago we had the opportunity to go with friends to the Plano Balloon Festival. It was the closest thing to a fair that we have been to in a long time. Sam and Joshua had a great time playing on all of the inflatable toys while the grow-ups were able to catch up and enjoy some good times. Thanks Bobby and Terra for taking us to such an amazing and wonderful event.

Visit with Great Aunt Marylin

We had the great pleasure of getting to visit with Aunt Marilyn a few weekends ago. We were so excited to finally introduce her to her Great Great Great Nephew. Sam took right to Aunt Marilyn and her kitties too! He just wanted to love on you Freddie...I promise! Sam was into everything, of course. But the one thing he couldn't stay away from was Aunt M's fireplace. He stacked all the pillows around it and made a pillow "fort" with his cars and various toys.

I'm pretty sure that Marilyn's main purpose while we were there was to fatten us up. Needless to say, we ate well. She told us to take a look in her fridge, that it had pretty much anything you could possibly want. She didn't exaggerate!! She had Dublin Dr Pepper in her fridge which was a great surprise to both Kelly and I! It's not something you typically find in the normal fridge. Here's to Aunt M's redneck fridge!! ;0)

The most memorable part of the trip was when she pulled out Uncle Joe's boots. What a treasured gift! Kelly has captured them beautifully below. Marilyn gave us the low down on the boots and who made them. Papa Sam Caldwell custom-made all of Uncle Joe's boots. The red and black ones are what I've been calling "boot contraband". The upper part of the boot that is red is made of cow leather and the toe is made of ostrich, which Marilyn said was illegal to use now.

And as we were getting ready to leave, Sam looked around Aunt Marilyn's yard and told her that when the leaves fall he would come and help her pick them up. Just him and her. Too sweet!

More about our Journey
Do you ever have the cities where you just can't get anything to go your way? Let's jump back a few years, about 6 to be exact. Once again, we were on our way to Nebraska to see family and stopped in Salina to get gas. I got out to pump the gas and Courtnee ran in to get a few things and pay. On her way in, she locked the doors and also locked the keys in the car. It just so happened that the “BTK” killer’s house was just right down the street!! Thanks to the lovely people that stayed with us while we got back into the car and on the road again. Well, this trip to Nebraska was going great until once again we got to Salina. We stopped to stretch our legs, get a treat, and get gas. No, we didn’t lock the keys in car this time, but we do have an experience to share. Courtnee ran into McDonalds and got some milk shakes while I hung out with Sam outside. Sam and I waited, and waited, and waited. We waited so long that Sam had an accident. Eventually, Courtnee came out with the shakes in hand and evidently it takes over five minutes to make two milkshakes. So, Courtnee sat the shakes on the console of the car, got out, and took care of Sam. While she was changing Sam in McDonalds, Frank (our cat) decided to get out of his cage and get down in the passenger seat floor board. Courtnee and Sam were coming back to the car; I reached over to pick up Frank and whap, I knocked over the milkshake right into my lap. It went all over my shirt and down the side of the seat. Finally, we got everything cleaned up and we were back on our way. While on the way to Holdrege we stopped in Hays Kansas to grab a bite to eat. When we got back into the car and turned on the A/C we didn't have cold air. Once again, I called dad and told him all about it. Calm as can be, dad called in the cavalry! They were able to get us fixed and back on the road by Monday. We are just so grateful of the many friends and family that helped us out while in Holdrege.

We hope that your Labor Day was fun, exciting and a memory too!!

SOLD!

For those of you who don't know, Courtnee, Sam and I have relocated back to the Dallas area. We sold our house in Wisconsin Rapids and are living in North Dallas once again. We are excited to be close to family and excited that Sam gets to play with cousins, aunts, uncles and great grandparents. Thanks to everyone that has prayed for us and helped us along our journey and has made our move a success.
A special thank you mom and dad for taking the time out of your busy lives to move us once again! We didn't think that we would get all of our stuff in that big trailer. Courtnee and I are convinced that you really bought it just to move us. Thanks to Curt and Stacy for taking care of Court while she came down to find us a place to live and for allowing us to "bum" WIFI for that past few weeks. We couldn't do it with out you guys!

Stripy Stripes is a Butterfly!

We have been growing stripy stripes for a couple of weeks now! Yesterday, Courtnee and Sam watched him emerge from his cocoon! It was wonderful to watch the process with Sam and I kept telling him that he is drinking all of the red bull in the cocoon and growing wings!
